In the spy business, operatives are deemed expendable. That means that when their services are no longer required, they are dismissed without anything; money, work experience or history and essentially no life at all, since the identity is taken away too. This is the fate that befalls the main character, Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan). Michael narrates of this cruel fate in the first narrative and the story picks up from there.
After a failed mission in the African country of Nigeria, he gets released off the operation and finds himself in the Florida state of Miami without a life whatsoever. His assets are frozen and he cannot contact his superiors to find out why he had been cut. As he struggles to get by, he is forced to seek comfort from former IRA operative and ex-girlfriend Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar) and an SRI Officer who loves drinking and women. He gets a roof over his head and he is forced to even interact with his mother (Sharon Gless) who has never been happier now that her son is back in town. But Michael does not feel the same since he has been trying his best to avoid running into her. He is literally forced to stay in Miami since his superiors since any attempts to leave the city would find him in a very bad place. For the sake of his freedom and his life he stays there. To make ends meet, he is entrenched into the business of private spy to anyone who requires his services, albeit unlicensed, as he searches for the truth behind his ‘burn notice’. In the process, he runs into all kinds of lowlifes including thieves, kidnappers and drug traffickers
What makes burn notice a must watch is Jeffrey who takes the role to heart and gives it his best. He is funny and his charm gets the people sticking to their sets to watch each episode of the intriguing story as he narrates it in a kind of un-innovative but interesting way. He gives some 411 into spying and what to do and what not to. The one-liners still come around in the middle of a brawl to keep you smiling in the middle of the action.
The mysteries continue to unfold deep in the second season when he comes face to face with the Management who puppet him but Michael is uncooperative which leads to his dramatic escape. At the moment, the show is in its third season, airing originally on the US Channel and streaming to many TV networks in the world.
